Federal Government has no right over Petroleum in Sabah

Kota Kinabalu: “It is illegal for the Federal government to take any of our oil, all 100% of it belongs to the people of Sabah, the Malaysia Agreement 1963 is very clear on this” says Zainnal Ajamain the main spokesman for a group of Sabahans calling themselves R for Sabah or Royalty for Sabah which is spearheading the summon to both the State government and PETRONAS.

Zainnal and his group are contending that the 1976 agreement is in conflict with the Federal Constitution which for the last 37 years successive state government failed to address.

Recently from both sides of the political divide are promising and assuring the people in Sabah that petroleum issues is high in their agenda.  The state government under YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman has recently announce that the state government is initiating move to renegotiate the Petroleum Agreement signed between the State government and Petronas in 1976 where by the state government is given 5% of value of oil found on shore and offshore of Sabah while 95% is taken by the Federal government.  At the same time opposition parties namely PKR is promising the Sabah people that IF they form the government they will increase the amount to 20% of the value of oil found in Sabah.  The local opposition parties are asserting that they accept similar quantum.

Zainnal Ajamain and his group are contending that both the state government and the opposition have no right to determine the quantum that each is providing to Sabah.  Zainnal said “100% of the oil belongs to the people in Sabah, it should be given back to them and let them decide as to how much should be given to the Federal government – whoever it may be”.  His statement agrees with the statement by Tok Guru Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang in Tuaran recently who said that “In the Islamic concept of governance, the wealth of a region shall be used to alleviate the problem of the people of the region first before it can be distributed outside the region”.

According to Zainnal, this event is part of a nationwide action against the Federal government and its agents for denying oil producing states from enjoying their god given wealth.  Similar suite will be filed in Kelantan, Terengganu and Sarawak.  Zainnal and his group are invited and shall attend a massive R gathering on 2nd October 2012 in Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam and to participate in the convoy to the Istana Kehakiman in Putrajaya the next day.

The writ of summon seeks to declare the Petronas Agreement 1976 as null and void.

Apart from Zainnal Ajamain, the R for Sabah Group is made up of Sabahans namely Lahirul bin Latigu, Mohd Julpikar bin Ab Mijan, Joseph Wilfred, Duli@ Dullie bin Mari and Michael Peter Govind @ Mick Goviind.

Tahniah di atas usaha saudara2 sekelian..Saya cadangkan ‘R” bukan bermaksud royalty tapi ‘Right’.. Kita memperjuangkan “Oil Right” dan bukannya oil royalty kerana kita tak perlu menagih royalti drpd siapa2…Ia HAK kita..
